Literacy
Talk about the sounds that the letter “U” makes.
Think of other words that start with the “U” sound: unit, umbrella, uncle, under, ukelele, uniform, unicycle
See if your child can find the “U” on the cover of each of the Unicorn Books you read.
Talk about how U is a vowel. Name all the vowels: A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y

Read the Purple Unicorn by Kenn Nesbitt
I have a purple unicorn.
I keep him as a pet.
He has a single purple horn.
He’s had it since we met.
He also has a purple tail.
He has a purple hide.
He’s purple on the front and back
and purple on each side.
He has a purple head and neck.
He has a purple mane.
I’ll bet, inside his purple skull,
he has a purple brain.
I know you think I’m joking;
that this simply can’t be true.
You’re right. That was a lie. In truth…
My unicorn is blue.

Biblical Integration
Have this conversation with your kiddos: Uni means one. Corn means horn. Unicorn means one horn! Did you know there is another word that starts with uni? It is unique. It is a word that means “one of a kind.” Did you know that God has made each person unique, one of a kind? Psalm 139 tells us that God knit you together in your mother’s womb. He took special care to make each and every person unique, and each one is made in His image!

In Christ Alone,
Trish
