Hi! Welcome to our A is for Apple Book and Activity List!

I can’t believe that it is the end of August, and we have already started our Homeschool Preschool for the year. Last time we went through the alphabet Sophie was 4.5 and Maggie was 1.5! Now, Sophie is 8, Maggie is 5, and Emmaline is 3!

Last week our theme was A is for Apple. A yummy beginning to the fall! Scroll down to see the books we enjoyed and some fun activities!

Below you will find

  • A list of our favorite books
  • A list of activities you can try at home
  • *NEW* A couple ideas for Biblical Integration

A is for Apple Book List

Here are some of our favorite apple books!

  • I Am an Apple by Jean Marzolo
    • This is a good beginner book on how apples grow.
  • Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Seuss
  • Ten Red Apples by Pat Hutchins
    • Sophie loved this one! The farm animals keep stealing the apples before the farmer gets a chance to eat one.
  • The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall
    • This book has an apple pie recipe at the end. It is yummy! It was my first time making an apple pie and the crust was puffy instead of crusty. I didn’t realize that you cannot use self-rising flour for pie crust.
  • How do Apples Grow by Betsy Maestro
    • We really enjoyed learning about the process of how apple blossoms are pollinated and then become an apple.
  • Orange Pear Apple Bear by Emily Gravett
    • Simple book. Beautiful illustrations.
  • Apples for Everyone by Jill Esbaum
    • Another good beginning book on how apples grow. Engaging, colorful photographs.
  • Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell
    • This one is cute. FYI: the little girl goes trick or treating at the end (wanted to let you know just in case that is not something you celebrate)
  • Apples, Apples, Apples by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace
    • This is an adorable book! Apple life cycle; accessible to 3-4 year olds. It includes some recipes!
  • Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington
  • Apples by Gail Gibbons
  • Hello World: How Do Apples Grow? by Jill McDonald (Board Book)
  • How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman
    • A fun book that reads like The House That Jack Built. (recommended by my friend Tori. She says she reads it every year before she takes her 5 kiddos apple picking)
  • One Red Apple by Harriet Ziefert
    • This book is beautiful and simple and follows the journey from apple to seed to apple. Act out the verbs on each page!

Ideas for Biblical Integration

Talk about how God shows us His goodness in all the good things He has given us to eat.

 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Psalm 34:8-10

Talk about how God has promised to provide us with all that we need. He knows what we need before we ask. We only need to ask Him!

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:25-26

Field Trips

  • Go to an apple orchard. There are so many good ones where we live in Western NC!

I hope these ideas are helpful to you! What are some of your favorite apple books and apple recipes?

Happy Apple Season, Everyone!
